Y Flag Football League

Practices & Games

Practices are typically up to the coaches but this is what we can tell you!

The Y has as Pee Wee League, ages 3-5, that is ran like a camp style. Our Flag Football Leagues plays on Tuesday & Thursday evenings, 8 game season. Practices are up to the coaches but typically it is one 60 minute practice a week.

Focus

Our focus is on 8 Core values, participation and fun! Our focus is on participation and fun! While basic skills of the game are developed through practices and games, every child learns sportsmanship and values necessary to be successful in life.

The Quincy Family YMCA has implemented 8 core values for our Youth Sports Leagues. This started in 2023 with our first sport, basketball, and it was a hit! Each week represented a core value. During practice and games, the coach(es) had to pick 1-2 players who exuded that core value. The player who was picked for that core value got to take home a yard sign and a medal to show off!

“The impact in which these 8 core values have had on the kids has been truley amazing to watch. It gives them something to play for and we get to teach future generations that sports isn’t just about being good or having talent.”

Y Volunteer Coaching Opportunities

We’re seeking volunteers interested in coaching youth sports. Our coaches make YMCA youth sports possible and create a lifelong impact on children by encouraging participation and emphasizing sportsmanship and strong character. When you become a volunteer, the Y will introduce you to coaching and provide specific resources to the sport you coach. If your child is a player, getting involved at their practices can help them feel comfortable to practice with you outside of official practice time.

Quincy Family YMCA offers a 50% discount to any coach who has a child playing that sport! – It is only 50% for one child.

Y Core Values

Enthusiasm, Caring, Honesty, Responsibility, Teamwork, Positive Attitude, Leadership, Respect & Perseverance

Coaching Benefits

Coaches should set a simple goal of a season enjoyable enough that everyone returns for next season. Welcome each player by name at every practice and game to help them feel welcome and positive from the start. Plan practices that keep kids active and be clear on your goals for their development by sharing them with your players and their parents.
